'The end of the week heralds a trip to the club. This means strictly no jeans with grass-stained knees or t-shirts with Burdock pop stains. In their stead are itchy wool trousers and a prickly nylon shirt. For the next four hours you have to sit as still as possible trying hard to prevent your flesh from making contact with your torturous Sunday best clothes. All of this is for a few glasses of coke, a packet of Mini-Crackers with spready cheese, and a silverskin pickled onion.'
