The Meeting

Created for Frank and Joy: a Love Story Exhibition 2023

'Frank’s mate’s girlfriend had a friend who was at a loose end and fancied a night out. Frank’s mate suggested Frank tag along. They would all be in the same pub at the same time anyway, so it made sense. Frank went to the bar to get a pint of Dutch courage before the group arrived. He looked across the room to see Joy sat at the far end of the pub, her gaze turned to the window, watching and waiting for her mate and her feller to turn up: “He always makes her late.” Her beauty was as rare as Bank Holiday sunshine. It radiated across the room and shone in his eyes. He could see nothing but her face. Everything around her was a blur. Like the twilight song of a blackbird on a factory wall, she reminded him that beauty existed even in the harshest of places.'
