Rude Boy Out Of School

'This is a biographical image in one sense because it is sort of me! It’s me wearing my first Mod / Ska suit which I bought from Harrington’s.

'I originally went to buy a Two Tone suit, which they didn’t have in stock, so the best thing I could get was this black one. You’ll notice the tie itself which has got the classic Two Tone check on it, these were bought from newsagents or poster shops, they were cheap knock-off thin ties made of fake silk. I am also wearing a Pork Pie hat here, You had to be brave to wear a suit and you had to be really brave to wear one with a hat. 

'Like the ties, hats were cheap as chips too. Although, the Pork Pie hat was a thing that Madness influenced more than The Specials. As for the shoes you would normally see a pair of nice Doc Martens or some posh Brogues, but young working class lads like us ended up with Soft Tech shoes from army stores. Finally, my trousers are taken up far too short and you can see my white Terry Towelling sports socks.'
